Teak Shower Bench – Classy And Functional
67
Looking to dress up your shower and bathroom? Or maybe you need to add a shower bench for safety and comfort to your bathroom. The best choice for this I feel would be a teak shower bench.
Why a teak bench? You shouldn't just put any wooden bench in the shower. Most woods cannot handle the humidity of a bathroom, but teak is the perfect wood for use in the shower or bathtub. Teak is a very durable wood; it is resistant to moisture and cracking, thus making it excellent for bathroom use. A teak shower bench should last you a long time.
There are many different kinds of teak shower benches and shower seats. Let’s take a look at some of the more popular ones for your consideration.
Teak Shower Bench
A shower bench will be a little larger than a shower seat. It is important to know the size of your shower and of course the size of the bench. There are teak shower benches that are made for shower/bathtub combos. This would be a piece of teak wood that you place on the rim of a tub. Most tubs are around 24 inches wide inside, so you would need a bench that is about 26 inches wide. The better brands will have sufficient width to the bench so it won’t slip into the tub. Look for clamps that will resist slipping and also protect the surface of your tub. This is essentially a teak board you put across your tub. This is your most basic shower bench.
If you have the room for it in your shower, then you can get a freestanding teak shower bench. Free standing means that the bench comes with legs. These benches tend to be about 15 inches high, 15 inches deep and 25 inches wide. This will give you plenty of room to sit on comfortably in the shower. This is great for the ladies when shaving their legs. No leaning over and hoping you don’t slip while holding a razor in their hand. Look for a shower bench that comes with legs that adjust so you can set the bench to the proper height for you. If you want to get a little fancy, look for shower benches that come with a shelf underneath it. This is handy to store your soap, shampoo or any other items you need close at hand. Check to make sure it comes with scratch resistant feet. Once again you don’t want to scratch up your shower floor.
Now we have been talking about using the bench in the shower, but you can certainly have a bench in the bathroom to hold bath items or to use as decoration. You can use it to store towels and washcloths. You can also use it to sit while drying yourself off. Either way, teak wood looks beautiful and holds up to heavy bathroom usage.Teak Shower Seats
If you don’t like the size of a shower bench in your shower, there are plenty of teak shower seats to choose from. These are generally a little smaller, but still worth having. You can find them in many styles. I saw one that looks like a directors chair but without the back. It comes with raised armrests, which adds stability and comfort. This one was made of all natural teak wood and looked great. There other ones out there that are equally nice. I prefer the seat all made from teak wood. You will find many seats where the legs will be made of aluminum, but I prefer the all teak look. When shopping for a teak shower seat, decide if you want one with fixed legs or if you would prefer one with folding legs so you could store the seat when not in use.
Teak Corner Shower Seat
If you need to create a little more room in your shower, but still want a shower seat, then look into a teak corner shower seat. This is a seat where the sitting area is shaped like a triangle. These are a little more compact, but still give you plenty of room to sit on in the shower. The Duro-Med Teak Corner Shower Seat gets excellent reviews for it size, durability and ease of assembly.
Teak Folding Shower Seat
These are really neat if you have the room for them. We have discussed shower benches and seats and how you can fold the seat up for storage or travel. This is a different type of teak folding shower seat. These are shower seats that are mounted and fixed to your shower wall and fold up when not in use. Typically the sitting area is made of all natural teak wood, but the support bars and mounting hardware are stainless steel that will never rust. These look great and are very functional. If you need it, its right there for you to unfold and it quickly goes out of your way when you fold it up.
So there you have the many types of teak shower benches and teak shower seats available to you. Take a look at them online; I think you’ll find one that you like.
